Salaam Baalak Trust Mumbai
Off The Street - On Their Feet!
At Salaam Baalak, we provide for Homeless & Street-Dwelling Children - at our Shelter & Centres in Mumbai & Thane.
From movie dreams, to street teams.
The film Salaam Bombay! used the power of cinema to depict the lives of street children. As the film was made with real street children, the film makers saw the potential in these children and created a trust to serve them.
As a direct result, the Salaam Baalak Trust has served street children since 1989.
Build it & they arrive...
Nurture & they thrive.
We started in 1989 with 1 shelter. We now provide care to over 500 children in 5 shelters & 4 contact points across Mumbai & Thane.
Education.
It all begins with an education. All our children are admitted to full time schools. Further our kids are trained in arts, yoga, sport, hygiene, life-skills, right upto job readiness training.
Food & Shelter.
Our centres provide a clean & comfortable haven for our children - where they can play, study & rest. Plus fresh, hot, home-cooked food is served for meals through the day.
Rehabilitation.
We offer professional, psychiatric counseling, creative development workshops & life-skills training for job readiness & income generation. So that our kids are ready for the real world.
“We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked & homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved & uncared for is the greatest poverty.”
